Jeremy Provost

Hi everyone. My name is Jeremy Provost. I am an aspiring illustrator located here in Wisconsin. I am currently building my portfolio through a series of sequential picture book illustrations. Coming up next month is the SCBWI conference in New York. I have registered for the illustrators intensive and am deciding which of these two illustrations to display. I would appreciate any feedback on which to take and how I can still imporve the illustration. Thank you and if you are interested in seeing any more of my work you can visit my website at

  1. Great illustrations Jeremy! I think they are both good choices to take to New York. Your colors are vibrant and both scenes have a lot of depth.

The first image contains a lot of emotion, which is always good. The composition might be a little stronger if the tree/dragon was positioned a little off center. I would also change the value of either the tree or the dragon so they are not so much the same.

The composition in the second illustration is teriffic. There is a great feeling of interaction between characters. The little boys face obviously reflects the purple from the dragon, but the orange shirt still seems pretty orange. I would either pull some of the purple from the rest of the boy or add a bit more to the shirt.

Good luck and have a wonderful time in New York!

  2. Thank you for your feedback- I really appreciate it!
